Football Drills for Each Player Position - Offense and Defense

 

Operating an effective football program involves getting effective reps for the players in each position on your team.

Below is a list of the drills that are typically used for football players in each of the different positions on a football team.

You can use this list of positions and associated drills to help you ensure that your team is fundamentally sound.

🏈 OFFENSIVE POSITIONS

Quarterback (QB)

Primary Focus: Decision-making, accuracy, footwork, leadership

Top Drills:

  • Dropback & Rhythm Drill – 3-, 5-, 7-step drops tied to routes
  • Progression Reads Drill – Move through 2–4 receivers quickly
  • Pocket Movement Drill – Slide, climb, reset under pressure
  • Target Net Accuracy Drill – Hit small windows consistently
  • Rollout & Throw on the Run – Simulates broken plays

Running Back (RB)

Primary Focus: Vision, ball security, explosiveness, pass protection
